At the penultimate entry stage there were fifteen declared for the Royal Ascot Gold Cup, including the hero of the last two years, Yeats, favourite in the Royal Ascot Gold Cup betting.

Looking for a third win in the race, Yeats will have his stablemates Honolulu and Septimus for company.

Runner-up to Yeats in this event last year, the enigmatic Geordieland, owned by property magnate Martin Myers and trained by former top jumps jockey Jamie Osbourne, tries his hand again.

There will also be a strong foreign flavour as the French stayer Coastal Path enters the Royal Ascot fray, joining Germany's Le Miracle and South Africa's Thundering Star.

Coastal Path is unbeaten but has never tried this two and a half mile trip. Nevertheless trainer Andre Fabre's charge is likely to pose the biggest threat to Yeats' hat-trick pretensions.

Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin operation will be represented by Regal Flush and/or Sagara.
