Fleeting Spirit is favourite in the Royal Ascot betting for the Group 1 Kings Stand Stakes on Tuesday (June 17). The three-year-old filly was the focus of some big-money bids over the winter months but trainer Jeremy Noseda persuaded her owners to keep the faith. So it was with great relief he saddled her to win Haydock's Group 2 Temple Stakes on her seasonal reappearance. Fleeting Spirit may be better over five furlongs than the six-furlong test of the King's Stand. But her trainer has no doubts. Noseda said: "Sure, she has never lost over five furlongs but I know she gets the six furlong trip well and she is a worthy favourite in the Royal Ascot betting." However Noseda did warn against the ground becoming softish. Fleeting spirit wants it firm and the more rain than comes the less her chance will be. Benbaun, who landed Longchamp's Group 1 prix de L'Abbaye, will run in the Kin's Stand Stakes. Benbaun was a creditable fifth at Chantilly on his return to the track this season and trainer mark Wallace believes that will have put his sprint star bang on for Royal Ascot's King's Stand Stakes. If Benbaun runs well and comes out of the King's Stand satisfactorily then Wallace will consider running his colt again - in the Golden Jubilee Stakes on the Saturday of Royal Ascot.
