St James's Palace Stakes Result: Henrythenavigator

Henrythenavigator (4/7 betting favourite) made it a hat-trick of Group 1 wins from his three runs this season when breaking the course record for a mile at Royal Ascot to land the 2008 renewal of the St James's Palace Stakes.

He was pushed all the way by Raven's Pass, who had met trouble in running when behind the winner in the English 2000 Guineas, but never looked like getting caught.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien reckons Henrythenavigator is the best miler he has ever trained. That's a tall statement from the handler of Rock of Gibraltar, Giants Causeway et al. Maybe it has much to do with promoting the commercial aspects of Henrythenavigator, who will make a great stallion for his owner's Coolmore Stud.

The Craven Stakes winner Twice Over was a creditable third. French Guineas winner Falco was only fifth and Stubbs Art, third in the English and Irish Guineas, was only sixth.
